BENEFITS
AFGE
Auto Buying Service
Description
A car, van and truck buying service that helps members
purchase a used or new union-made vehicle at hundreds
of dollars below typical dealer listings. This program
specializes in locating recent-model used cars found
on dealership lots. The program also helps members search
for a new vehicle by going directly to the dealer to
get a price that's close to the dealer's actual invoice
cost and below the list price.
Eligibility
Any current dues-paying AFGE member, or a member of
their household, is eligible to use this benefit.
New
Cars
*
Members provide the make and model of the vehicle
they want when calling the service. Members who don't
know exactly what kind of vehicle they want, but have
an idea, will be offered guidance by the service's
auto specialists.
* Members need not negotiate the price of the vehicle
with any dealership salespersons -- the service will
do that for them.
* The service provides members with savings on extended
warranties and service contracts purchased through
the program.
* Members are offered low-cost Guaranteed Auto Protection
(GAP), which pays the difference between what is owed
on a new union-made car and what an insurance company
will pay if the car is destroyed or stolen and not
recovered. (These coverage offers are available only
at the time of purchase.)
Quality
Used Vehicles
*
Members can provide the service with a specific car
model and manufacturer year they have in mind and
the service can locate local dealerships that carry
it. OR
* Members can provide the service with a pre-specified
amount they wish to spend and the service can identify
models that are available within that price range.
Special
Notes
*
Prices for available vehicles generally start at $4,000.
* The service specializes in locating recent-model
used cars (1995-2000).
* Only top-of-the-line, physically-inspected used
vehicles are available.
* Many come with a warranty.
* The identification number of used vehicles are checked
against insurance industry records to ensure the cars
have not been salvaged or reconditioned.
* Vehicles that do not meet the service's stringent
inspection standards are rejected.
Geographic
Restrictions
